Baby /Toddler Activities in DC

Being a stay at home mom really is a full time job. Some days I long for an eight hour day at the office where I can have a cup of coffee without a child tugging at my leg/arm/shirt/hair.... and a commute which will allow me to quietly read/listen to the news. Of course, being able to see my baby all day every day is a gift I am incredibly lucky to have. Thank you honey :). But I digress.... babies, turning into toddlers means crazy high non stop energy in your house... aka madness. If you're in the DC area though I do have a few options to recommend. Below I'll list our schedule which includes a few toddler friendly activities that I love at the moment.

Monday: Museums are great. Of course, there are a on of museums appropriate for kids who are old enough to really engage, I'd say 5 years and older. But what about the tiny tots who need to crawl/run around? The building museum has a great kids area (Build Zone) where they can explore and crawl around getting rid of some of that energy .... details can be found here

*do check the hours though, instead of showing up at 4PM like I did last week :/ wah wah

Tuesday & Friday: Library story-time.....  Shaw Library has wonderful music and story times. Tuesday mornings are rhythm and rhyme (music) while Fridays are more about the books. More details can be found here. Be sure to arrive early thought because tickets go fast (it's free to attend but there are capacity restrictions for the space so they give out tickets to keep track of the numbers). There's typically a few people already waiting in line when the library opens at 9:30AM. And yes, the first floor turns into a stroller parking lot :)

A list of all DC public library story times can be found here. *I've also tried the story time at the Library of Congress and it was equally fantastic.

Wednesday: Tranquil Space has a wonderful 'Winter Tots and Tykes' class (crawlers to 4 year olds) on Wednesdays at 10AM. Unlike the baby and me class for pre-crawlers, this class is all about the kiddos. But if you have a tiny tot (pre-crawler) and would like to get a workout in yourself come for one of the baby and me classes. It's also a great way to meet some fellow mamas like yourself. And yes, if you're expecting Tranquil Space also offers a variety of pre-natal classes. I've tried all versions of these classes (pre-natal, baby & me, the tots & tykes) at the Dupont circle location and I've yet to have a bad experience. I highly recommend the studio This is a link to their schedule. Want to know more about pre-natal yoga in DC? Here's a post from when I was expecting.

Thursday: U.S. Botanic Gardens is a wonderful way to escape the winter blues.  On Thursdays at 10:30AM they provide a guided tour to mamas and babies called "snugglers" (you wear your baby in an ergo because strollers just won't fit). I attended just once so far but absolutely loved it and highly recommend it. The gardens provide a room (right to the left of the main desk as you enter through the main entrance) where you can store your things (a stroller too although their site says not to bring one) and even breastfeed (yey!). The tour is free but you must sign up online ahead of time.

* I swear my munchkin liked the tour it's just this photo was taken past his nap time.
